  If you are interested in the Lay Servant Ministries program, please contact your district director for an application form. This annual report form  is required each year to maintain enrollment. It asks the lay speaker to reflect on the previous year and list areas of ministry as well as other discipleship questions. Yes, lay servants are accountable to our church families, The United Methodist Church, and, most especially, to God.

Barbara Beach, of New Hope UMC, is married to a special guy named Don and has been blessed with 3 children and 4 grandchildren. She is involved with many ministries at New Hope including the UM Community Centers, District UMW, Family Promise, Veterans Outreach, and wherever she is needed. She is in charge of ushers at Annual Conference this year. Barbara believes her true meaning is in every opportunity to give, to inspire, and make living more beautiful for others.
 
Mahoning Valley District Lay Speaking Pastor of the Year
Rev. Doug George is a graduate of East Liverpool High School and Ashland Theological Seminary. He was ordained a deacon in 1982 and elder in 1986. He and his wife Joyce have three children. Doug has served several churches since 1977 and is currently at Salem First UMC. He is a believer in the ministry of the laity and how Lay Speaking serves there.
